Aranda Lee Kuan Yew named in remembrance of Mr Lee Kuan Yew

An orchid named after Mr Lee Kuan Yew was  presented to to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at Istana  on the 24th of March 2015 .The orchid – named Aranda Lee Kuan Yew  produces flower sprays that bear up to ten pristine yellow flowers each. Each bloom measures about 9.5cm to 10cm across. It is supposed to be a complex hybrid with Arachnis hookeriana in its bloodline.

Doritis natmataungensis, a new species found in Myanmar!

Are news species related to Phalaenopsis being discovered till today?

YES !!! One very desirable new doritis species from Myanmar is recently described in March 2010 by T. Yukawa, Nb. Tanaka & J. Murata.

It is related to Phalaenopsis stobartiana (滇西蝴蝶兰). Doritis natmataungensis has flowers that opening widely, sepals and petals apple-green to dark olive-green with closely veined lines, lip with a tinge of rose colour.

A new discovery -Dendrobium kelamense from Indonesia

Destario Metusala discovered a new orchid species from the dendrobium ‘s calcarifera section in Kalimantan. This dendrobium greatly resemble Dendrobium panduriferum. The major difference is that Dendrobium labellum have U-shaped callus in between side lobe and the edge of middle lobe is jaggy.

Thrixspermum odoratum – a new orchid discovery in Hainan Island!!

It is published in Ann. Bot Fennici 46: 595 -598 on the 18th December 2009 that Thrixspermum odoratum an epiphytic orchid with reputed to emit a strong jasmine fragrance is found in the tropical rain forest of Hainan Island, China.

New orchid discovery in Kirkcudbrightshire

It was annouced that Ophrys apifera has been found by Tony Barbour at Kirkcudbrightshire in June 09. It was also reported that a population of 90 flowering plants were noted at that point of time.
