Rhododendron lyi is found in China, Thailand and Vietnam. They are shrubs which can grow up to 2 m and they usually bloom in April to May. The flowers are white infused with green colour or at certain varieties are found with yellow blotches. They are tender and need perfect good drainage to strive. In their origin, they are found in dense woods and dry plateau.

Some nurseries are offering varieties from Vietnam that are suppose to be more heat resistant and more upright in growth.
